Feb, 2011: The new IconArchive (v3) went live!

We are very glad to offer you the latest IconArchive with a lot of useful features:

• New clean floating design of the whole site, optimized for wider screens.
• Tag based image search engine for all icons.
• Advanced public tagging system, where you can upvote/downvote tags, report invalid tags and remove own tags.
• Lots of search filter options added.
• Color based image search & sorting(!). You can now search for "home", then click on "white" to see white homes first.
• Collect icons. You can collect your icons by clicking the heart icon. No login required.
• Organize icons on your Desk. Arrange your icons as fast as on your home desktop via drag & drop. Create, Edit, Remove Groups.
• Share icons. Use the "Share" button on your desk to share an icon group with a friend via mail.
• History. Last 8 viewed icons can be accessed in the right column.
• Lots of other usability and performance improvements...

Problems solved

  Why?
  I strongly dislike the new site design. I am only interested in the pixel art icons, and the old website was well organized by category and by size, so I could easily find the type of icon I was looking for and in the correct size. (32 x 32) The new layout is very confusing and difficult to navigate. Too much emphasis is placed upon what icons are newly added, and quite frankly, I couldn't care less. I visit this website frequently and I really and truly hope that this new design doesn't last."
  
  How we solved this problem:
  Very good points, we completely agree with the critique.
  1.) Search mode: We made the following improvement to our search engine to find pixel art icons.
  Now you can choose a Filter named "Style: Pixelart / Classic" to view pixel art icons.
  Examples:

  and so on... We really love this new feature!
  Update: Currently we are the only icon search engine offering this useful feature!
  
  2.) Browsing mode: We made changes to our browsing mode.
  When you view iconsets from a category, for example Food Icons,
  you can now sort by date / popularity / classic / modern / alphabet.
  Select "Modern/Classic" to have exactly the same sorting order as on the old website.

  We couldn't follow this critique. As an example, if you want to find an elephant, one search is enough now:

  In the previous version, you had to browse all animal icon sets. Of course you can do this in the new version, too:

  but it will take some time.
