Words from the authorIt's no secret around the 'factory that I constantly pine for eWorld, Apple's long-defunct online service. It was a special place, an graphics-based electronic community back in the days when the World Wide Web was just a Hypercard-inspired white paper being written on an SE, long before it became the overcrowded commercial juggernaut it is today. I wasn't able to be a participant nearly long enough for my liking, but I won't likely forget the experience, either. There still isn't anything quite like it today. Of all the cool ideas Apple has nixed, I think eWorld was the one that most deserved to live...Well, thanks to the magic of 32-bit pixel-pushing, eWorld *can* live again, if only on your desktop! I have diligently tried to re-create the loose and wonderfully cute "pen-sketched" feeling that all of the eWorld graphic materials had, and 32-bit icons allow me to do that in a way that the old 256-color Performa era precluded. I have also taken a step in new direction (for me) by creating all the icons as vector art in Freehand and then importing them into Photoshop, to be assembled with IconBuilder. This set also represents something of a "full circle" for me, as the job of extracting and packaging the original eWorld icons was the first thing I ever did for my first icon site, Pixelhaus. Back then, I was reticient about working on simple 256 icons, unsure of my skills. This new set, however, has been endless fun to create and a true labour of love. I have tried to go beyond simple re-creation and have taken the look deeper into your system with icons I hope will be useful for an array of general purposes.... perhaps not as extensively as an iPack, but who knows what the future holds? :-) I have also included some materials from eWorld itself, simply for your enjoyment: three terrific screenshots of some of the alternate "Town Square" scenes you might see when you logged on and the original eWorld font suitcase. At my personal clearinghouse site, Pixelhaus, you can find eWorld desktop pictures and sound files to complete the experience. I sincerely hope you have as much fun with these icons as I have had creating them! | |||||
